This is the Same method long applied to produce Japanese swords.
Hardening by the traditional method of production, and seaming of edges by welding, sharp finish by filing are combined into creating a superior product. Due to aging of artisans and discontinuation of businesses, few makers maintain this kind of production method within the country. Even among those who do, as a result of the inconsistent process of manufacturing and hardening, they produce defective products with nicked edges and inferior cutting quality. Hagataya never skimps on labor because we know what makes excellent edged tools.
